Veteran performer Ronnie Wood is doing his best to ensure that the Rolling Stones put together some kind of show for the band’s 50th anniversary this year. The hardest part isn’t trying to find the time or preparing the talent, it’s working to mend the rift between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Apparently the feud began when Richards made some unflattering comments about the size of Mick Jagger’s manhood in his autobiography. Since then, Wood has worked to bring the two together and fans are hopeful that they can work through their issues and get back to the music.

So far, there’s no news on Rolling Stones tickets but Richards says there’s still some hope.

“I don’t see why in the world the Stones can’t put together some kind of show next year,” Richards told Rolling Stone in an interview. “I’d almost count on it. It doesn’t have to be the whole spectacle bullshit again, but we’ve got to find our own way through this.”

After being in a band for nearly 40 years, you pretty much have to just laugh it off when you hear an absurd rumor about yourself. But according to a source who spoke to a British newspaper, the group has decided against touring because of Keith Richards remark about Mick Jagger’s “tiny todger” (a.k.a. penis–don’t worry, I had to Google it too).

While the band has been making headlines for legal controversy (you can read about that here), they are notably absent from the road. The anonymous source who spoke to the Daily Mirror that Richard’s comments, which first emerged in his October 2010 autobiography, was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“Even before Keith’s comments, there was talk of various egos at play within the band which was making negotiations difficult,” the source told the Daily Mirror. “But the fallout from the interview seemed to be the final straw.”

That’s because the headlining spot for the ceremony will be filled with either The Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney of The Beatles, according to the Daily Star.

“The 2012 Olympics opening ceremony is going to be spectacular. It has to be to kick off the event in great British style. Everyone wants to be a part of this historical happening and what is great for us is The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney are interested in playing,” a source said in the interview. “They both have an outstanding catalogue of hit after hit that everyone across the world knows. The Stones and McCartney can easily carry off something of this magnitude on the world stage.”

Both have years of experience playing in front of major crowds, like the Stones performance at the 2006 Superbowl and McCartney’s performance at the 2005 Superbowl in Jacksonville.

Rumors have been swirling aroung the Rolling Stones. First, that the band is touring in 2012. And second, that drummer, Charlie Watts, would not be with them, having left the band.

This news bit emerged on an Australian news site over the weekend, but has been denied, on both fronts, by reps for The Stones. According to NME, a representative for the band stated, “Contrary to a fabricated and ill-informed report that appeared yesterday on a small music website in Australia, we would like to make it clear that drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones.”

Let’s recap: the good news is Charlie Watts is still a Rolling Stone. The bad news is that there is no confirmation on a tour in 2012 or earlier. Sorry, fans! But we can still keep our fingers crossed that Rolling Stones tickets may be in our future sooner than we think.
